The “Opposition Alliance” has named six demands for free and fair elections.
As one of the members of the alliance, Tengo Tevzadze, stated at the briefing, before fair elections, it is necessary to stop politically motivated criminal cases and repeal repressive laws.
“The “Opposition Alliance” has set the main task of replacing the “Georgian Dream”, which, first of all, must be implemented through fair and equal elections. Before we talk about fair elections, it is necessary to release political prisoners, stop politically motivated criminal cases, as well as repeal those repressive laws that have dismantled or posed a very significant threat to democratic institutions: critical media, political parties, civil society groups and other important instruments for democracy.
In order to hold free and fair elections, it is necessary to fulfill 6 main requirements: change the rules for staffing the election administration. It should be fully based on the parity principle. Parties that have overcome the barriers as a result of the 2020 and 2024 elections should be staffed with one representative each; immigrants should be given the opportunity to vote again and polling stations outside the country should be opened; electoral dispute panels should be created in the court regarding election complaints; determine the necessity of studying/verifying (auditing) the apparatus and polling day in the conditions of conducting elections using electronic technologies; open the voter list and make it possible to verify voter participation in the elections,” Tevzadze said.
