Irakli Chikhladze, arrested on charges of espionage, was sentenced to imprisonment as a preventive measure. The decision was made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Eka Barbakadze.
At today's session, the issue of imposing a preventive measure on the detainee was discussed.
The prosecutor's office requested the use of the most severe preventive measure of imprisonment, while the defense requested that Chikhladze be released without a preventive measure.
For information, Irakli Chikhladze was arrested by the State Security Service on charges of espionage on May 30.
He was charged under Part 1 of Article 314 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to espionage. The aforementioned act is punishable by up to 12 years of imprisonment.
