    Martyr Theodisia the Virgin, of Tyre (307-308); Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council (325);

    Archbishop Alexander of Alexandria (326); Holy Martyr Theodisia the Virgin, of Constantinople (730).

    The Holy Martyr Theodisia of Tyre suffered for Christ in 307 or 308. On May 29 (BC) the transfer of the holy relics of the martyr to Constantinople and Venice is celebrated.

    The Holy Martyr Theodosia the Virgin was born as a result of the fervent prayers of her God-fearing parents, and after their early death she was brought up in the convent of the Holy Martyr Anastasia in Constantinople. As soon as he ascended the imperial throne, Leo Isaev, that cruel persecutor of the venerable icons, immediately issued an order to destroy icons everywhere. At that time there was a gate in Constantinople, which was called the “Brass Gate,” and over it for 400 years a copper icon of the Savior had hung. In 730, the false patriarch, the iconoclast Anastasius, ordered this holy icon to be taken down. The Orthodox Christian people, led by the holy martyr Theodosia, together with other nuns, rose up to defend this icon and, together with the horseman who carried out the order, threw down the ladder placed at the gate. The horsemen killed all these nuns, and Saint Theodosia, as the most zealous defender of the icons, was thrown into prison. For a week she was beaten with sticks every day, as a result of which the martyr died.
