Nikephoros the Confessor, Patriarch of Constantinople (828).

The High Priest Nikephoros the Confessor was born in Constantinople in the eighth century. He received a good education. During the reign of Leo IV, Saint Nikephoros received the position of advisor to the emperor. After the death of Leo IV, during the reign of Constantine VI, in 787, an ecumenical church council was held in Nicaea, at which the iconoclastic heresy was condemned.

As a scholar of Holy Scripture, Nikephoros came out in defense of Orthodoxy, thereby providing great assistance to the holy monks participating in the council. After the accession of the iconoclastic Emperor Leo V of Armenia, the era of persecution began again. Saint Nicephorus was exiled first to the Chrysopolis Monastery, and then to the island of Prokonis. He died in 828.
