Police arrest minor on charges of extortion of gold jewelry worth 1,350 GEL and 10,000 GEL

Officers of the Marneuli District Division of the Kvemo Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have arrested a minor on charges of extortion for the purpose of obtaining a large amount of property.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the investigation revealed that the accused had been systematically extorting money and valuables from a classmate since September 2025 by intimidation and threats of physical punishment. It is also established that the said student had given the detainee gold jewelry worth 1,350 GEL and 10,000 GEL at different times.

As a result of the complex operational measures and investigative actions carried out in the case, law enforcement officers arrested the perpetrator as a suspect.

"The investigation is underway under Article 181 of the Criminal Code, which provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 7 years," the MIA said in a statement.
