    Petro-Pauline Fast

His Holiness Dorotheus, Bishop of Tyre (362); Martyrs: Marcian, Nicander, Hyperix, Apollonius, Leonidas, Arius, Gorgi, Selinus, Erinus and Pambos (305-311); Venerable Theodore the Wonderworker (VI); Venerable Anubis, Egyptian deserter (IV); Venerable Dorotheus, Abba Serid of Savanna (620); Hilarion, Patriarch of Dalmatia (commemoration of his miracle).

The Holy Hieromartyr Dorotheus was bishop of the Phoenician city of Tyre during the persecution of Christians declared by Emperor Diocletian.

The hierarch left Tyre to save the martyrs. During the reign of Constantine the Great, he returned to Tyre, regained the episcopal throne, and for fifty years shepherded his parish. Blessed Dorotheus converted many idolaters to the law of Christ. Hierarch Dorotheus was already over 100 years old when Julian the Apostate began to persecute Christians. From Tyre, he moved to the city of Udu (now Varna) in Mysia. There he was captured by the emperor's soldiers. When the holy monk refused to sacrifice a lamb to idols, he was terribly tortured.

The holy martyrs Marcian, Nicander, Hipparchus, Apollon, Leonidas, Arius, George, Selinus, Irenaeus, and Pavnon of Egypt were martyred during the reign of Maximian for their steadfast adherence to Christianity. The monks, both living and dead, were thrown into the abyss, where an angel appeared to them and healed them. Many pagans, who witnessed this miracle, were converted to the law of Christ. The holy martyrs died in the abyss of thirst and hunger.

The venerable Father Anubis, an Egyptian desert hermit, endured many sufferings during the persecution of Christians in the 5th century, but survived and retired to the desert, where he remained until his old age.

The venerable Father Theodore the Wonderworker lived in the 6th century. In his youth, he abandoned secular life, became a monk, and settled in the Jordanian desert. God gave him the power to work miracles. For example, once, while traveling to Constantinople, he asked God to make the sea water fresh so that the thirsty travelers could breathe. When the grateful people thanked him, Saint Theodore said, "God did not perform this miracle in response to my prayer, but to have mercy on you, who are suffering from thirst."
