God gave the saint the gift of miracles. The saint peacefully gave up his spirit to the Lord in deep old age.

The parents of the venerable Father Hilarion the New were true Christians. At the age of 20, he was tonsured a monk in the monastery of Asikia near Byzantium, from where he moved to the monastery of Dalmatia. There he became a disciple of the venerable Father Gregory of the Decapolis.

During the reign of the iconoclast Emperor Theophilus, the venerable Father Hilarion was imprisoned, brutally beaten, and exiled to the island of Afisia.

After the death of Theophilus, Saint Hilarion returned to the monastery of Dalmatia, accepted the abbotship, and died peacefully there in 845.
