Venerable Father Onofre the Great lived a hermit life with other fathers. Venerable Father Onofre spent 60 years in solitude.
Venerable Father Peter of Mount Athos, a Greek by birth, was a commander of the emperor's army and lived in Constantinople. In 667, he was captured during a war with the Syrians. The Lord performed many miracles on the captive Peter, after which he converted to Christianity, went into seclusion in the desert, and continued his life of such devotion. The venerable Peter died in 734.
