The Holy Martyr Aquilina was a resident of the Phoenician city of Byblos. During the persecution of Christians declared under Emperor Diocletian, the saint was captured and tortured. The Christians reverently buried the body of the saint. Later, her relics were transferred to Constantinople and placed in the church named after her.
The venerable mother Anna and her son Saint John lived in Byzantium. Saint Anna was the daughter of a deacon of the Church of the Wallachia in Constantinople. After the death of her husband, Anna, dressed in men's clothing, settled with her son, Saint John, in one of the monasteries of Bethany near Mount Olympus and led a monastic life. Saint Anna died in Constantinople in 826.
