PACE resolution is not based on an objective, fact-based assessment, contains biased interpretations, one-sided political assessments and repetition of false narratives about Georgia - Georgian Foreign Ministry

The report is not based on an objective and fact-based assessment, contains biased interpretations, one-sided political assessments and repetition of false narratives about Georgia, which raises serious questions regarding both the impartiality of the report and the process of its preparation, - the Georgian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement. The ministry responds to the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

As stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgia once again confirms its readiness for mutually beneficial cooperation based on respect and trust and expects a constructive and fair approach from the institutions of the Council of Europe.

“On 24 June, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) adopted a resolution based on a report on the functioning of democratic institutions in Georgia.

The report is not based on an objective and fact-based assessment, contains biased interpretations, one-sided political assessments and the repetition of false narratives about Georgia, which raises serious questions about both the impartiality of the report and the process of its preparation.

It is particularly alarming that an international institution established to protect human rights, democracy and the rule of law is increasingly being used as an instrument of political pressure. Such practices undermine the authority of the Council of Europe itself and raise well-founded doubts about the impartiality of individual structures of the organization.

It is unacceptable to discredit a democratically elected government in the name of democracy, to undermine legally functioning state institutions Targeted criticism and encouragement of political groups that are trying to ignore the public mandate received through elections. Such an approach does not serve to strengthen democracy, but rather to deepen political polarization and encourage radical processes.

A biased attitude towards the internal political and legal processes of a sovereign state is unacceptable, as is the political assessment of legislative decisions taken in full compliance with national interests and constitutional procedures. The demand to repeal laws without proper legal reasoning and objective assessment is disturbing, which goes beyond the scope of the institutional mandate and bears signs of political interference.

The Georgian government will firmly defend the country's sovereignty, constitutional order and the democratic choice of the Georgian people. No external political pressure, disinformation campaign or unfair assessment can become the national "The basis for disregarding interests, state independence and democratic legitimacy.

Georgia, as a responsible member of the Council of Europe and a faithful defender of its core values, once again confirms its readiness for mutually beneficial cooperation based on respect and trust and expects a constructive and fair approach from the institutions of the Council of Europe," the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.
