Commemoration of the Holy Martyr Thebrones (c. 304)
The Holy Martyr Thebrones suffered during the persecution of Christians during the reign of Diocletian.
She was raised in a monastery in the city of Sivapolis. She converted many pagans to the law of Christ. The whole city heard about her pious life.
At that time, Diocletian began to persecute Christians and sent a detachment of soldiers to Assyria, led by Lysimachus, Selinus and Primos. They also captured Saint Thebrones. They demanded that she renounce Christ and offer sacrifices to idols. When Saint Thebrones refused to deny Christ, the pagans captured him and brutally tortured him in public.
Among the people was the nun Thomas, who later described the martyrdom of Saint Thebrones.
In 363, the relics of Saint Thebrones were transferred to Constantinople. Later, Saint James, Bishop of Nisibis, built a church in his honor and transferred the relics of the holy martyr there.
