    Seven people arrested on drug charges, including foreign citizens - MIA

    Officers of the Patrol Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Tbilisi, Kakheti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Shida Kartli Police Departments have arrested seven people at various times on charges of facilitating the illegal purchase, storage and sale of a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as the illegal cultivation of a plant containing narcotic drugs. The MIA has released information about this.

    According to the agency, among the detainees are both Georgian and foreign citizens.

    “As a result of the search of the defendants’ personal, residential houses and homestead plots, law enforcement officers also seized a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances as evidence from various locations, including “methadone”, “buprenorphine”, 201 roots of “herbal cannabis”, 143 packages of “tetrahydrocannabinol”, “dried marijuana”, “baclofen” and “gabapentin”.

    The police also seized materials necessary for the packaging of narcotic drugs.

    The investigation is underway under Articles 260, 260-Quarter and 265-Prima of the Criminal Code, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment,” the MIA said in a statement.
