    Mikheil Kavelashvili Meets with WTO Director-General in Geneva

    georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili met with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in Geneva.

    According to the President’s press service, the meeting discussed the current cooperation between Georgia and the WTO and the ongoing processes in the field of international trade.

    “Attention was paid to the implementation of Georgia’s commitments within the WTO, the process of economic reforms and the importance of developing the multilateral trading system.

    The parties emphasized that Georgia’s 26-year membership in the World Trade Organization has made a significant contribution to the country’s economic modernization, the approximation of trade policy to international standards, and the creation of a predictable environment for investments.

    The meeting also discussed Georgia’s transit potential and the growing importance of the Middle Corridor. It was noted that the reforms implemented to facilitate trade and infrastructure development further strengthen Georgia’s role in the connectivity between Europe and Asia.

    The President of Georgia confirmed the country’s readiness to continue to actively cooperate with the World Trade Organization and support the strengthening of a free, fair, and rules-based multilateral international trading system,” the statement said.
