    Criminal case opened for the premeditated murder of Giorgi Kvaratskhelia in 2015 - Prosecutor's Office

    A criminal case has been opened for the premeditated murder of Giorgi Kvaratskhelia in 2015. Two people will be charged in the criminal case. Tbilisi Prosecutor Giorgi Mikaia announced this.

    “We would like to provide the public with information about the circumstances and facts established as a result of the recent intensive investigative actions in the aforementioned criminal case.

    The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia established that Davit Dekanosidze and Tornike Kacharava, due to a past disagreement with the latter’s brother, intended to take revenge on Giorgi Kvaratskhelia and murder him in a group.

    On December 25, 2015, Tornike Kacharava, armed with illegally acquired 7.65 caliber firearms, and Davit Dekanosidze, also armed with illegally acquired 9 mm caliber firearms, arrived at Giorgi Kvaratskhelia’s residential building located at 3b Guram Panjikidze Street in Tbilisi and at approximately 20:36 At 10:00, while Giorgi Kvaratskhelia was in the yard, the defendants fired multiple shots in his direction, as a result of which Giorgi Kvaratskhelia received a gunshot wound to the head with injuries to the skull and brain and, despite the assistance provided, died in a medical facility.

    The defendants, Tornike Kacharava, will be charged in a penitentiary institution, and Davit Dekanosidze will be charged in absentia under Subparagraph “e” of Part Two of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (old edition, premeditated murder committed in a group), which provides for up to 17 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

    The Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the court within the time limit established by law with a motion to use imprisonment as a preventive measure against the defendants. Davit Dekanosidze will be declared wanted. "The investigation into the criminal case at the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues with the aim of identifying other individuals involved in the case," said Tbilisi Prosecutor Giorgi Mikaia.
