Another case against Aleko Elisashvili under the article of terrorism has been postponed by the court for an indefinite period, we appeal to the court and the prosecutor's office to immediately resume the consideration of the case and the examination of evidence - lawyers
According to the statement of Aleko Elisashvili's lawyers, the court has postponed the consideration of another criminal case initiated under the article of terrorism for an indefinite period.
According to lawyer Giorgi Rekhviashvili, the examination of evidence was supposed to begin at today's session, however, according to his assessment, there is no relevant evidence in the case, which is why the consideration was postponed.
“As you know, another criminal case is being opened against Aleko Elisashvili under the article of terrorism, the so-called dogs case. We were supposed to start examining the evidence, but since there is no evidence in the case, the court postponed the case indefinitely. We appeal to the court and the prosecutor’s office to immediately resume the consideration of the case and the examination of the evidence so that the public can see that there is no direct evidence in the case that would confirm that Aleko Elisashvili committed any crime. It is important for the public to see how the opposition politician is being persecuted on political grounds,” said Rekhviashvili.
Another human rights defender of Elisashvili, Archil Chopikashvili, noted that the court’s decision, in his assessment, indicates that the goal of the case was to “neutralize” the opposition politician.
“There were two identical cases – one of an attempted terrorist act, the other of a completed terrorism. The terrorism case was actually postponed indefinitely, which indicates that the main goal was to neutralize the opposition politician and take personal revenge. This case has no legal justification at any stage. Our position is that his cases should be considered in a timely and effective manner,” Chopikashvili said.
For your information, the case concerns the episode of a fire in the court archive on May 4, 2025. Aleko Elisashvili has been charged in this case under Part 1 of Article 323 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to a terrorist act and provides for a sentence of 10 to 15 years in prison.
In addition, another case was opened against Aleko Elisashvili on charges of attempted terrorist act. The court found him guilty in this case and sentenced him to 13 years in prison by the decision of Judge Giorgi Gelashvili.
