Venerable Father Thomas Malei was a commander before his tonsure as a monk. Thomas aspired to God with his heart and soul and soon left the worldly comforts and became a monk.
Thomas, with great humility, went to the monks and asked them to guide him. After a few years, he was blessed with a life of solitude and the labors of a hermit. The holy prophet of God Elijah himself indicated to him to go to Mount Meleia (the eastern part of Athos). In complete solitude, Saint Thomas fought the invisible enemy with the same courage and steadfastness as before - the enemy of his homeland.
