According to the statement of the member of the parliamentary majority, Davit Matikashvili, the German government is taking a “relatively sensible approach” and one of the signs of this is the removal of information from the website of the German Foreign Ministry, which indicated Salome Zurabishvili as the acting President of Georgia and Ilia Darchiashvili as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

As Matikashvili noted, Georgia is ready for relations with Germany and wants to fully restore the historical friendship between the two countries.

“Slowly, common sense is winning in the German government. That non-existent information was removed from the website, although, as we know, it has not been updated yet. A date has also been set for the transfer of relevant documentation to the ambassador.

We are absolutely ready, open to relations. It is very important to restore the historical friendship with Germany, the German people, to the end. We want to restore everything that the German ambassador who was here at the time spoiled with his own actions, with the anti-Georgian nature of his actions. The ball is definitely in Germany’s court. We will monitor the development of events. Well, it is noteworthy that the departure of the ambassador and the removal of this information coincided, a relatively sensible approach on the part of the German government. Let the society draw its own conclusions,” Matikashvili said.

According to him, relations with the German state and the German people are important for Georgia, and he expects the new ambassador to help improve relations.

“Relations with the German state and the German people are important to us. We will be glad if the representative of the German state in Georgia is imbued with the political spirit to restore relations between the Georgian and German peoples and return them to a high level of friendship. Therefore, it would be welcome for us to send such a figure to Georgia and, in general, to shift the approaches of the German government to those tracks that will contribute to friendly beginnings between the two states and not, on the contrary, strain or spoil relations in any way,” Matikashvili noted.
