The management of the Kulevi refinery presented arguments that there was no movement of sanctioned cargo, I hope sanctions will not be imposed - Irakli Cheishvili

The oil refinery located in Kulevi is a private company, therefore, Georgia does not interfere in the management process, Georgia controls that there is no movement of sanctioned cargo in this terminal, - Irakli Cheishvili, a member of the parliamentary majority, told the Georgian First Channel.

According to him, the management of Kulevi presented arguments that there was no movement of sanctioned cargo.

“The sanctions have a six-month term, and as far as I know, the Kulevi leadership has presented relevant arguments that there was no movement of sanctioned cargo there and nothing like that was observed. Therefore, we hope that they will find a common language with the European Union and the sanctions will not be implemented. Of course, it is possible that the sanctions will not be implemented and will be reviewed, because the existing company has arguments and, hopefully, they will find a common language with the European Union. The Georgian government will not interfere in this specific case,” said Irakli Cheishvili.

The Council of the European Union approved the 21st package of restrictive measures against Russia, which includes crypto platforms registered in Georgia and an oil refinery located in Kulevi. Regarding the Kulevi plant, it is noted that the sanctions should be implemented after six months.
