According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of eastern Iran launched several ballistic missiles from Iranian territory as part of an attempted surprise attack against US forces deployed in the Middle East.

According to CENTCOM, all Iranian missiles were successfully repelled and neutralized. According to the agency, US military forces in the region remain on high alert.

Later, the US Central Command issued a statement, according to which on July 28, US and Saudi Arabian armed forces carried out precision airstrikes on the facilities of Iranian-linked terrorist groups in Iraq.

According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted several logistics and weapons facilities in eastern Iraq, which, according to the agency, were controlled by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran and were used to organize attacks on US military forces and Saudi Arabian energy infrastructure.

According to the American side, over the past 72 hours, more than 30 drone attacks were carried out at the direction of the IRGC, although these attacks against US forces were unsuccessful.

CENTCOM also notes that between February and April 2026, armed groups affiliated with Iran in Iraq carried out more than 600 attacks on US citizens and facilities.

The US Central Command says that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its affiliated groups must stop such attacks, otherwise the US will take additional military measures.
