Two people arrested on charges of exchanging large amounts of counterfeit currency

As a result of operational-search measures and investigative actions carried out in coordination with the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regional Prosecutor's Office, officers of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia have arrested two people on the fact of exchanging a large amount of counterfeit currency in a group.

According to the Investigation Service, the investigation revealed that the defendants exchanged 20,500 USD worth of counterfeit 100 and 50-dollar banknotes in the Adjara region in order to obtain illegal material benefits.

The investigation is underway under Part 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for a term of 7 to 10 years.
