The State Security Service of Georgia has arrested three foreign nationals in Tbilisi for the illegal sale of firearms and ammunition.

According to the State Security Service, the investigation revealed that the detainees are members of a network of one of the largest criminal groups operating in a foreign country, who were illegally importing firearms and ammunition into Georgia for sale.

According to them, as a result of the search, illegal firearms, ammunition, presumably narcotics and electronic devices prepared for sale were seized as evidence.

The investigation is underway under Article 236, Part 5, of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment.

“The officers of the State Security Service of Georgia, the State Security Department, have arrested three foreign citizens for the illegal sale of firearms and ammunition.

The investigation revealed that the arrested individuals are members of a network of one of the largest criminal groups operating in a foreign country, who illegally imported firearms and ammunition into Georgia for sale. The officers of the State Security Department arrested them in Tbilisi, at the scene of the crime.

As a result of a search of the detainees’ personal belongings, a car and a temporary residence, illegal firearms, ammunition, presumably narcotics and electronic devices prepared for sale were seized as evidence. Upon initial inspection, photo and video materials depicting various criminal acts, including the sale of a particularly large amount of narcotics, were found in the aforementioned devices. The seized evidence has been forwarded to "The State Security Service continues the investigation with the aim of identifying, exposing and bringing to criminal responsibility other individuals involved in the international criminal network. The investigation is currently underway under Article 236, Part 5 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 9 years," the information states.
