The position of State Minister for Regional Policy will be created in the government structure of Georgia.

The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, announced this at a briefing held at the government administration.

According to him, the said position will be held by Mamuka Mdinaradze.

According to the Prime Minister, Mamuka Mdinaradze will continue to hold the duties of Vice Prime Minister.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the work done during this time allows for the effective coordination and work of law enforcement structures to be ensured in the future without the special position of State Minister.

“A few months ago, Mamuka Mdinaradze took up the position of State Minister for Law Enforcement Affairs, where he made a significant contribution to the establishment of a system of coordinated work of law enforcement agencies. The work done during this time allows us to ensure effective coordination and work of law enforcement structures in the future without the special position of State Minister,” the Prime Minister said.

As Irakli Kobakhidze noted, one of the most important challenges and tasks of the state today is to strengthen regional policy.

“The State Minister for Regional Policy will be responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of governance in the regions, and it is precisely in light of the special burden of this mission that we have decided that one of the leaders of our team, Mamuka Mdinaradze, will take up the position of State Minister,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.

In addition, according to Irakli Kobakhidze, the Ministry of Regional Development will be abolished in September and Minister Kakhaber Guledani will take up the position of First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Georgia.

“With the introduction of the position of State Minister for Regional Policy, the Ministry of Regional Development of Georgia essentially loses its purpose and will accordingly be abolished in September. The acting Minister of Regional Development, Kakha Guledani, will take up the position of First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Georgia,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, he thanks Kakha Guledani for his highly professional and conscientious service as Minister.

“Since the introduction of the position of State Minister requires the adoption of a law, until the creation of this position, Mamuka Mdinaradze will hold the position of Minister of Regional Development until the first week of September. The position of State Minister for Law Enforcement Affairs will be abolished by law in the first week of September, and will remain vacant until then. I would like to ask the Parliament of Georgia to adopt, in an expedited manner, a package of laws on changes to the structure of the Government of Georgia in the very first week of the next parliamentary session. I wish Mamuka Mdinaradze success in his position as State Minister for Regional Policy. I would like to note once again that the effective implementation of regional policy is a task of paramount importance for the state today, which Mamuka Mdinaradze, as a politician with exceptional political and managerial experience, is best able to fulfill,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.
