Commemoration of the Great Martyr Marines (IV); Exposition of the Parts of the Venerable Lazarus of Galicia.

The Holy Great Martyr Marines was born in Asia Minor, in the city of Antioch, into a priestly family. Marines' mother died early, and her father gave her to a nanny, who raised her as a virgin in Orthodoxy.

During the persecution of Christians that began under Diocletian, 15-year-old Marines was captured. The ruler offered her to renounce Christianity and marry him, which she firmly refused. For this, she was severely tortured and thrown into a dungeon, where she received a heavenly revelation and was healed.

The enraged ruler ordered all Christians to be severely tortured. At that time, 15,000 Christians were killed, and Saint Marine was beheaded.

The saint's hand was taken to the Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos.
