Initiative group established to protect the church, national heroes, Georgian language, historical heritage and traditional values

Actor Giorgi Shanidze, director Giorgi Sikharulidze and Batumi Theater Director Kote Mzhavia have established a new initiative group.

As the founders of the initiative group stated at a press conference, their goal is to prepare a relevant legislative initiative that will ensure proper legal protection of the Georgian Orthodox Church, national heroes, Georgian language, historical heritage and traditional values.

“Freedom of expression for each person is a fundamental value, however, this right cannot be used as an instrument to insult the sanctities and fundamental values ​​that constitute the historical, cultural and spiritual foundation of the country. That is why we are starting a consultation process with the participation of lawyers, legal specialists, historians, representatives of the arts, sports and all other interested public groups, in order to prepare an appropriate legislative initiative that will ensure proper legal protection of the Georgian Orthodox Church, national heroes, the Georgian language, historical heritage and traditional values,” said actor Giorgi Shanidze.

In addition, according to Giorgi Sikharulidze, they are appealing to the Parliament of Georgia to help in adopting the relevant law.

"We appeal to the Parliament of Georgia, and therefore to all those people, lawyers, legal scholars, historians, and representatives of both the cultural and sports spheres, to help us together wisely adopt a law that will regulate all of this and remove the threats that each of us sees as real," said director Giorgi Sikharulidze.
