Amy W. Diaz to Serve as Acting U.S. Ambassador to Georgia

Amy W. Diaz will serve as Acting U.S. Ambassador to Georgia. The U.S. Embassy in Georgia announced this.

“Amy W. Diaz, a senior career diplomat in the U.S. Foreign Service, will serve as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, effective July 2026.

Ms. Diaz has held the following positions at various times: Chargé d’Affaires ad interim and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Lilongwe, Malawi; Deputy Director of the Office of Policy and Global Affairs, Bureau of European Affairs, U.S. Department of State; Chief of the Consular Section at the U.S. Embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe; and Chief of the Counter Narcotics Task Force at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Her work experience also includes: Rule of Law Advisor and Coordinator for the Summit of the Americas at the U.S. Embassy in Panama; Chief of the Domestic Policy Section at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi; Vice Consul at the U.S. Embassy in Harare; Vice Consul at the U.S. Consulate General in Monterrey, Mexico.

Ms. Diaz joined the U.S. Department of State in 2002 as a Presidential Management Fellow and became a career diplomat in the U.S. Foreign Service in 2005. She received her bachelor’s degree from St. John’s College (Annapolis, Maryland) and her Juris Doctor from the University of Arizona.

Ms. Diaz has been awarded numerous awards of distinction and distinction by the U.S. Department of State. He is married and has one child,” the US Embassy in Georgia said in a statement. Until now, the acting US ambassador to Georgia was Alan Purcell.
