“Coalition for Change” and “Strategy Agmashenebeli” launch a campaign to prepare a constitutional lawsuit to return the right to vote to immigrants – “Emigrant Voice”.

As “Coalition for Change” member Tengiz Tevzadze stated at a press conference held today, the amendments made by the “Georgian Dream” to the “Election Code” deprived immigrants of their right to vote, which, according to him, is an unconstitutional decision.

“In the rigged 2024 parliamentary elections, the Georgian Dream received only 13.4% of the votes of Georgian emigrants, and according to the party ranking, it came in fourth place. After that, it was clear that emigrants who could not be bribed, could not be broken, and who were able to register their voting rights in a free environment would be deprived of their electoral rights. Depriving emigrants of the right to vote is a violation of the Constitution, as well as a betrayal of those people who are the main contributors to the Georgian economy,” said Tengiz Tevzadze.

With the 2025 electoral changes, like local self-government elections, citizens will be able to vote in parliamentary elections only within the state borders of Georgia. Polling stations will no longer be opened abroad.
