Venerable Macrina, sister of Basil the Great (380); Venerable Dios (430); Venerable Seraphim of Sarov the Wonderworker (parts discovered 1903); Martyrs and Priests: Aristarchus, Orantes, Oskis, Gregory and Daniel (IV); Venerable Baralamus, who worked on Mount Caucasus, in Antioch.
Venerable Mother Macrina was born in the fourth century, in Cappadocia. In addition to Macrina, there were nine children in the family. When the children grew up and left their native hearth, Saint Macrina persuaded her mother, Saint Emilia, to free the slaves and go to a nunnery. After the death of her mother, Saint Macrine led the Sisters of Savannah. Saint Macrine died in 380. The saint was buried next to her parents.
Venerable Father Dio was born in the fourth century, in Antioch, Syria, into a family of pious Christians. By the will of God, the saint went to Constantinople and settled in one of the suburbs. Nearby residents came to him, and he helped them as best he could. Soon the Patriarch ordained the saint a priest and appointed him abbot. Saint Dio died in deep old age.
