Large amount of various drugs seized, six people arrested

Officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have arrested six people on charges of illegal purchase and storage of a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs, facilitating their sale, and planting and growing plants containing narcotic drugs.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the detainees include both Georgian and foreign citizens.

“The investigation establishes that the defendants were involved in criminal schemes for the sale of narcotics. They placed the narcotics in various places for the purpose of sale, took photos of them, and then sent them to persons interested in purchasing narcotics with the appropriate markings and coordinates.

As a result of the search of the defendants’ personal and residential homes, as well as from various places, law enforcement officers seized as evidence a particularly large amount of narcotics prepared for sale, including: up to one kilogram of cocaine, five kilograms of “marijuana”, up to five kilograms of “cannabis”, “hashish”, 520 tablets of “lysergide” (LSD) and 23 packages of “mephedrone”.

As a result of the investigative actions, the police also seized materials necessary for the packaging of narcotics.

"The investigation is underway under Articles 260, 260-Quarter and 265-Prima of the Criminal Code, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment," the MIA said in a statement.
