“Lelo” on the Shovi tragedy: Even after three years, the public has no answers, the investigation was allegedly conducted in the wrong direction

According to one of the leaders of “Strong Georgia - Lelo”, Levan Samushia, even after three years since the Shovi tragedy, the public has no answers about what happened and there is still no objective assessment.

According to him, “Lelo - Strong Georgia” demanded from the very beginning to launch an investigation into alleged official crimes, however, according to his assessment, government representatives were stating from the second day of the tragedy that no official crime had taken place and thus, in fact, were predetermining the direction of the investigation.

“Citizens will remember that the officials of the “Georgian Dream” were saying from the second day that there had been no official crimes and were presented as if they were experts, making expert assessments, which was an indication of the alleged direction of the investigation. And so it happened – the investigation was launched not in the direction of official misconduct, but under the article of violation of safety rules. It is likely that the investigation was deliberately conducted in the wrong direction,” Samushia said.

three years have passed since the Shovi tragedy. On August 3, 2023, a landslide in Shovi killed 33 people. The body of one minor has not been found to this day.
