Commemoration of the Holy Righteous and Anointed One Mary Magdalene; Repose of the Holy Hieromartyr Phocas.

The Holy Righteous and Anointed One Mary Magdalene was born in the city of Magdala, whose name has forever entered the history of the Gospels. According to tradition, she led a sinful life. The Gospel tells us that the Lord cast out seven demons from Mary. From that day on, Mary began a new life and became a faithful disciple of the Savior.

Mary followed the Lord in Judea and Galilee, where Jesus, accompanied by the holy apostles, preached the true faith.

Mary was faithful to Jesus in the days of his supremacy, even during his greatest trials and humiliations. The evangelist Matthew tells us that she also participated in the burial of the Lord.

According to tradition, Mary went to the Emperor Tiberius and celebrated the Resurrection of Christ. She brought the emperor a red egg as a symbol of the Resurrection and new life and said: “Christ is risen!”

She continued to preach the Gospel in Italy and Rome. The saint was in Rome before the arrival of the Apostle Paul and stayed there for two years. From Rome, Mary Magdalene emigrated to Ephesus, where the Holy Apostle John worked, who wrote the XX chapter of the Gospel from her story. Holy Mary ended her life there and was laid to rest there.
