Loan Agreement Signed Between Georgia and Asian Development Bank for Construction of Tbilisi Bypass

A loan agreement has been signed between Georgia and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which envisages the allocation of financial resources in the amount of 250 million USD for the construction of the Tbilisi Bypass. The Ministry of Finance reports.

The document was signed by the Minister of Finance of Georgia, Lasha Khutsishvili, and the Director of the Permanent Mission of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to Georgia, Leslie Bearman Lahm.

According to the agency, the project envisages the construction of an approximately 18.9-kilometer, four-lane, median-equipped section of the Tbilisi Bypass. In particular, the funding will be used for two sections of the Tbilisi bypass: Lot 4 (Tbilisi Airport-Lochini) and Lot 5 (Lochini-Rustavi).

“The project is important for the development of the country’s transport network. The new highway will relieve traffic in the capital, improve the safety of transit flows, and contribute to increasing the capacity of the country’s transport corridors. The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Infrastructure Revaz Sokhadze, Deputy Minister of Finance Ekaterine Guntsadze, Head of the Roads Department Levan Darakhvelidze, representatives of the Ministries of Finance and Infrastructure and the Asian Development Bank. The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia, through the Roads Department,” the release states.
