The Ministries of Regional Development and Infrastructure will be merged and a separate position of State Minister for Regional Policy will no longer be created. This was announced to journalists by the Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

According to Papuashvili, the government will withdraw the legislative amendments on the creation of the new position from the Parliament and instead, will submit new amendments, which the Parliament will consider in the next sessional week.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, taking into account that Mamuka Mdinaradze has left politics, there is no longer a need to create a new position.

“Discussions are underway and it is likely that the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure will be merged. I think it was said from the very beginning that the tasks that the Prime Minister assigned to Mamuka Mdinaradze in the form of coordination of law enforcement agencies were based on his personal capabilities, and he performed this function very well, this system is well organized. There was a desire that in terms of coordination, the same could be done in the regional direction. Given that Mamuka Mdinaradze made the decision to leave politics, this need no longer exists. The creation of this position was conceived based on Mamuka Mdinaradze’s capabilities. This requires political experience, which Mamuka Mdinaradze had in particular. His work in the direction of law enforcement agencies is the best proof of this. Of course, the creation of this position was conceived based on Mamuka Mdinaradze’s experience, weight and knowledge,” Papuashvili said.

On August 27, Mamuka Mdinaradze resigned from the position of Minister of Regional Development and announced his retirement from politics.

As a reminder, on July 29, at a briefing held at the government administration, it was announced that the position of State Minister for Regional Policy would be created within the structure of the Georgian government, which Mamuka Mdinaradze would hold, and the Ministry of Regional Development would be abolished in September. Before the creation of the position of State Minister, Mamuka Mdinaradze held the position of Minister of Regional Development.
