Coordinated campaign underway to make Georgia give up its territories - Shalva Papuashvili

According to the statement of the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, a “direct campaign” has been underway recently against the territorial integrity of Georgia.

As Papuashvili stated, this campaign, in his assessment, is reflected in the statements of various political figures.

“Recently, we have been seeing a direct campaign directed against the territorial integrity of our country. I would like to emphasize this. First, it started with the statement of Baramidze, who accused Georgia and Georgian soldiers of war crimes during the ongoing confrontation in the 1990s, then Gvaramia, who called it a historical trauma that needs to be released and somehow drew parallels with Armenia,” Papuashvili stated.

According to him, these statements show what kind of vision some of their authors have regarding the territorial integrity of Georgia and the unification of the country.

“This is a continuation of the line that the collective “National Movement” has always had, including when it was in power. Saakashvili says that we hate Abkhazians and this does not help anything, that the policy of reconciliation makes no sense. Bokeria’s statement that the policy of reconciliation is futile, Gvaramia’s statement that this is a trauma and this trauma blocks our development, we must get rid of it and look ahead, from his perspective,” the Speaker of the Parliament noted.

According to Papuashvili, this is a coordinated campaign, the goal of which is to gradually accustom the society to Georgia’s surrender of its territories and refusal of the territorial integrity of the country.

“All this shows that this is a coordinated campaign so that Georgia surrenders its territories to Russia and refuses territorial integrity, the unification of its country. They are stealing from us drop by drop, slowly, and they will add to this, what Gvaramia is talking about, with parallels with Armenia, that in return some perspectives will open up,” Papuashvili stated.

According to him, similar calls are also made to other countries in the context of territorial conflicts.

“They are telling Ukraine to compromise on territories and this will open up more prospects for development. They are telling Moldova the same thing regarding Transnistria. Now, it seems, they have come to us and from here a very strict answer must be given that there will be no compromise with the integrity of our country for any purpose,” he noted.

According to the Speaker of the Parliament, the two main national tasks of Georgia are the well-being of the people and the unification of the country.

“It must be emphasized once again that the two main national tasks of our country are the well-being of our people and the unification of the country. There is no other goal that is higher than this. So, we will not exchange the territorial integrity of our country for any other goal,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
