Apostle Thaddeus, one of the 70 (approx. 44); Sarmeanes, Catholicos of Kartli (779); Venerable Thaddeus of Stephansmindeli, one of the Thirteen Assyrian Fathers (VI); Martyr Bassas and his three sons, martyrs: Agapis, Theogenes and Pistos (305-311).

The Holy Apostle Thaddeus was of Jewish origin. He was born in the Syrian city of Edessa. Upon his arrival in Jerusalem, when he heard the sermon of Saint John the Forerunner, he was baptized by him and remained in Palestine. When he saw the Savior, he became his disciple. The Lord accepted him among the 70 disciples who preached in cities and villages. After the Ascension of the Savior, the Apostle Thaddeus worked in Syria and Mesopotamia. In Edessa, the saint built a church and ordained priests, where the saint peacefully died in 44 AD.

The Holy Martyr Vasas and his children Theogonia, Agapi and Pistius lived together in the Macedonian city of Edessa. The Holy Martyr Vasas was raised in the Christian faith from childhood and instilled faith in his children. The husband betrothed his Christian wife and children to the Emperor Maximian Valerius. By order of the emperor, the children were tortured in front of their mother. They were beheaded.

It is known that in Chalcedon, around 450 AD, there was already a church named after the Holy Martyr Vasas.
