As of August 2026, Georgia's total international reserves increased by 56.4 percent compared to the previous year and reached a historical high of $8.14 billion. The National Bank of Georgia reported.

According to them, compared to the previous month, international reserves increased by $613 million, and reserve adequacy indicators also improved.

“The current level of international foreign exchange reserves exceeds the 100% adequacy threshold (ARA metric) determined by the International Monetary Fund methodology and amounts to 128.2%. International reserves are an important guarantor of the country's macroeconomic stability. Therefore, the long-term policy of the National Bank of Georgia is always aimed at the accumulation of reserves and the effective management of reserve assets. When the foreign exchange market and macroeconomic conditions allow, the National Bank replenishes foreign exchange reserves. As a result of the policy of the National Bank of Georgia, in the last two years, compared to October 2024, the volume of reserves has doubled. During 2026, due to favorable conditions in the foreign exchange market, the NBG is replenishing reserves and in January-July 2026, net purchases totaled amounted to 2,566.6 million USD. Meanwhile, the statistics on net purchases for August 2026 will be published on September 25.

It is worth noting that in 2024, the NBG made a strategic decision on the diversification of reserves and made its first investment in gold. Since then, the price of gold has increased significantly, which contributed to an additional increase in the volume of international reserves. In June 2026, the NBG purchased an additional 100 million USD worth of monetary gold for total international reserves. As of August 2026, as a result of the change in the gold price, the value of monetary gold increased by 135 million USD compared to the previous month and amounted to 1,149.2 million USD. The share of monetary gold in total international reserves is 14.1%.

The National Bank of Georgia has updated its total international reserves "The data will be published on October 7, 2026," the National Bank said in a statement.
