Officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia have arrested eight people on drug charges.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the group of Georgian and foreign citizens have been arrested on charges of illegal purchase and storage of a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, facilitation of their sale, as well as illegal cultivation of plants containing narcotic drugs.

“As a result of the operational measures and investigative actions carried out in the criminal case, it was established that the defendants placed the drugs in specific places selected in advance, and then sent the relevant coordinates and marked photos to interested persons.

As a result of the search of the defendants’ personal and temporary residential apartments, as well as from 44 premises indicated by them, law enforcement officers seized as evidence a particularly large amount of various types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances prepared for sale, including: “Methadone”, “Mephedrone”, “Alpha-PVP”, “MDMA”, “Hashish”, “Ketamine” and “Marijuana”.

As a result of the investigative actions, law enforcement officers also seized materials necessary for packaging narcotic drugs and, presumably, money received as a result of the sale of drugs.

"The investigation is underway under Articles 260, 260-quarter, and 261 of the Criminal Code, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment," the MIA statement said.
