Ministry of Education Policy Strengthens the Process of Russification of the Country - Irakli Pavlenishvili

According to the statement of the Chairman of the Governing Council of the United National Movement, Irakli Pavlenishvili, the policy of the Ministry of Education contributes to the proliferation of Russian schools and kindergartens in Tbilisi, which, in his opinion, strengthens the process of Russification of the country.

As Pavlenishvili told journalists at a briefing held at the Ministry of Education, there are a number of schools in Tbilisi where children study according to the Russian curriculum and do not receive proper Georgian education, including the Georgian language.

According to him, the existence of such educational institutions creates a threat of the formation of a parallel society.

“The Ministry of Education has become another gateway to Mordor in Georgia. It is the Ministry of Education that allows people from Russia, or Mordor, to multiply Russian schools and kindergartens like mushrooms on the territory of Tbilisi,” Pavlenishvili said.

According to him, the issue concerns not only unauthorized educational institutions related to Russia, but also to other countries, and, in his assessment, the operation of such schools is inadmissible in the national interests of Georgia.

Pavlenishvili addressed representatives of the Ministry of Education and demanded an explanation as to why unauthorized schools are operating in Tbilisi and why, according to him, tens of thousands of children are receiving an education that “has no connection whatsoever” with Georgian citizenship and Georgian society.

“I ask Mr. Mikanadze and others – why are unauthorized schools operating in Tbilisi, why are they multiplying like mushrooms, and why are tens of thousands of children receiving an education that has no connection whatsoever with Georgian citizenship,” Irakli Pavlenishvili stated.
