Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has signed a decree dissolving the country's parliament and calling early parliamentary elections. The elections will be held on October 25, 2026.

According to Vučić, the decree will enter into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia. The legal deadlines for electoral procedures will begin to count from that date.

Serbian Prime Minister Djuko Matsut proposed the dissolution of parliament and the calling of parliamentary elections at an extraordinary government session on September 7.

According to him, the elections represent an opportunity to strengthen state institutions, reduce political tension, reject mutually exclusive policies, and return political struggle from the streets to the institutional space.

Matsui stated that until the election of a new government, the current Cabinet of Ministers will continue its activities with the same energy, responsibility, and pace.

According to the legislation, parliamentary elections are called by the president of the state, and no less than 45 and no more than 60 days must pass from the date of the election until the vote.
