Commemoration of St. Great Martyr Queen Shushanik. Venerable Father Moses of the Black, daughter of the righteous Anna the Prophetess - the servant of God.
Venerable Father Moses lived in Egypt and worked for the desert monks. Venerable Father Moses, after a long period of work, was ordained a deacon. 75 disciples gathered around him and faithfully served Christianity. When Venerable Moses turned 75, he called the monks to him and warned them that robbers would soon attack us and kill all the inhabitants of the Lavra. The saint blessed them and himself remained in the monastery with six disciples. The robbers attacked them and killed them all. This happened around 400 AD.
The righteous Anna the prophetess belonged to the Assyrian tribe. When she was 84 years old, she saw the baby Jesus Christ in the temple, who, according to the Law of Moses, as the eldest son, was to be brought there as a gift to God. The righteous Anna glorified God and announced to everyone that the Messiah had come to the world.
The great martyr Shushanik was the daughter of the prominent commander, Varden Mamikonian. Shushanik married the patriarch of Hereti, Varsken, who betrayed the law of Christ and accepted the Mazdayan priesthood. When Shushanik learned of her husband’s betrayal, she refused to continue the marital relationship and retired to a separate cell with her children. Enraged, Varsken inflicted many torments on the woman. She died on December 17.
His holy relics were kept in the Tsurtavi Cathedral, but soon the cathedral fell into the hands of Armenian heretics — the Gregorians. The Catholicos-Archbishop of Georgia, Samiyil IV, transferred the holy relics of Shushanik to Tbilisi, to the southern corner of the altar of the Metekhi Cathedral.
