Levan Ioseliani is on an official visit to Washington

The Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, is on an official visit to Washington.

According to the Office of the Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani held meetings with representatives of the US State Department's Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs (EUR), the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL), the Bureau of International Cooperation with Narcotics and Law Enforcement Agencies (INL), as well as the Office of Foreign Assistance (FAO).

“Public Defender Levan Ioseliani provided the American side with information on the human rights situation in Georgia and spoke about the main trends in the human rights situation in the country and his recommendations. During the meetings, special interest was expressed in the issues of freedom of expression, the importance of conducting effective investigations, and the rights of religious and national minorities. The discussion also touched on the rights situation of people living in the occupied territories.

At the meetings held at the US State Department, Levan Ioseliani focused on the long-standing cooperation between the Public Defender’s Office and American institutions; he emphasized Georgia’s aspiration to continue moving towards strengthening democratic principles and expressed hope that the close support of the United States of America in this process will continue in the future.

The official meetings held in Washington were also attended by First Deputy Public Defender Tamar Gvaramadze and Deputy Public Defender Elene "Ghudushauri," the information states.
