Since the expanded sanctions list announced by the US State Department includes airlines that currently operate flights between Georgia and Iran, the Georgian side, as in other cases, will now also act in full compliance with the international sanctions regime, - this is stated in the information released by the Civil Aviation Agency.

According to them, Georgia takes into account the sanction mechanisms established by the European Union and the United States.

“Georgia actively protects and ensures the implementation of sanctions imposed by our international partners. This also applies to the aviation sector.

In the process of allowing foreign airlines to enter the aviation market, Georgia is guided by national legislation, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, and bilateral or multilateral international agreements.

Georgia takes into account the sanctions mechanisms established by the European Union and the United States.

In addition, in order to ensure the safety of passengers, the local aviation market, and infrastructure, the Civil Aviation Agency of Georgia has for years, as an additional monitoring mechanism, managed the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons list of the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (“SDN List”) and all other sanctions lists administered by OFAC. Accordingly, within the framework of the aforementioned mechanism, Georgia had previously restricted the operations of several airlines.
