Martyr Mamas (275), his father Theodotus, and his mother Rufina (3rd century); Venerable John the Faster, Patriarch of Constantinople (595); the 3,628 (or 3,608) Martyrs of Nicomedia (3rd–4th centuries).

Saint Mamas the Martyr was born in Paphlagonia to noble and pious Christian parents, Theodotus and Rufina. They were seized by pagans and cast into prison, where they eventually met their end. Left an orphan, Mamas grew up filled with the love of God and served Him throughout his life.

Venerable John the Faster, Patriarch of Constantinople, is known as the compiler of the Nomocanon on Penance, which has come down to us in several versions. This collection contains teachings and instructions for spiritual confessors.

The 3,628 Holy Martyrs of Nicomedia suffered for the Christian faith during the reigns of Emperors Diocletian and Maximian.
