The Prosecutor's Office has reduced the charges against a minor accused of intentional murder in the city of Rustavi

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has downgraded the charges against a minor accused of intentional murder in Rustavi, based on newly discovered evidence. The Prosecutor's Office released this information.

According to the agency, the case concerns a murder committed on June 5, 2026, in a residential apartment in Rustavi, during which the accused minor killed a foreign national. "Law enforcement officers arrested the minor on the same day and charged him under Article 108 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (premeditated murder), an offense punishable by imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years.

Based on expert findings and other evidence obtained during the substantive hearing stage of the trial, the prosecution downgraded the charge against the minor to Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (homicide committed by exceeding the limits of necessary defense), which carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term of one to three years.

At the same time, the Prosecutor's Office is petitioning the court to replace the pre-trial detention currently imposed on the accused with a more lenient measure of restraint," states the information released by the Prosecutor's Office.
