Four individuals arrested in Batumi on drug-related charges at different times

Officers from the Adjara Main Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Central Criminal Police Department have arrested four individuals in Batumi on drug-related charges on separate occasions.

The arrested individuals—three foreign nationals and one Georgian citizen—are charged with the illegal purchase, possession, and facilitation of the sale of large and especially large quantities of narcotic substances, as well as the illegal sowing, growing, and cultivation of narcotic-containing plants.

Investigative actions conducted by law enforcement revealed that one of the accused had set up a special greenhouse in a rented apartment in Batumi, where they were illegally growing and cultivating cannabis plants—which contain narcotic substances—for the purpose of subsequent sale. Following searches of the accused individuals' persons, their temporary residence, and their vehicle, the police seized various types of narcotic substances in particularly large quantities as evidence, including: 25 packages of mephedrone, 20 packages of hashish, and up to four kilograms of cannabis plants.

Law enforcement officers also seized materials required for the packaging and cultivation of narcotic substances.

The investigation is proceeding under Articles 260 and 265-1 of the Criminal Code, which provide for a penalty of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
