Parliament Confirms Tamaz Borashvili as Head of State Security Service
The Parliament of Georgia has confirmed the candidacy of Tamaz Borashvili as the Head of the State Security Service.
Ninety-seven MPs registered for the vote; 83 supported Borashvili, while none voted against him.
Notably, the former head of the service, Geka Geladze, stepped down from the position of Head of the State Security Service on September 14. Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze nominated Tamaz Borashvili for the role.
"Tamaz Borashvili will be the first career official in the last two decades to assume the position of head of the state security system," Irakli Kobakhidze noted during the nomination.
