Operations of all Iranian airlines worldwide to be halted starting September 23 – Bessent

According to Scott Bessent, Iranian airlines could face a virtual halt to their international operations. The U.S. Treasury Secretary discussed this in an interview with CNBC.

Bessent stated that airports, fuel suppliers, and ticket-selling companies servicing Iranian air carriers could be subject to U.S. sanctions. "Let me tell you, we are exerting unprecedented pressure on Iran. The Treasury Department's sanctions authorities have expanded significantly since September 11; that is precisely when we were granted many of the powers we use today. About a month ago, we acquired five new authorities and have already utilized them against the Iranian regime, specifically targeting the aviation, maritime transport, cryptocurrency, and gold sectors. Starting September 23, the operations of all Iranian airlines worldwide will be halted. How do we intend to achieve this? If they land, you cannot provide them with fuel, ground services, or ticket sales; otherwise, you will be cut off from the dollar system," stated Bessent.
