Recent surge in gastroenteritis cases across Tbilisi caused by norovirus – National Center for Disease Control and Public Health

Studies have confirmed that the recent increase in gastroenteritis cases across Tbilisi is caused by norovirus, according to the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health.

The Center stated that the majority of children who contracted the virus in recent days have already recovered and been discharged from medical facilities. In light of heightened public interest, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) presents the latest update regarding the recent increase in cases of gastroenteritis in Tbilisi.

Investigations have confirmed that the recent surge in cases is caused by norovirus. The majority of children who contracted the virus in recent days have already recovered and been discharged from medical facilities; the cases proceeded without complications. Monitoring is ongoing, and there is currently no indication of a risk of complications.

To prevent further spread of the illness, it is recommended to pay close attention to hand hygiene—particularly before eating and after using the restroom. This recommendation is especially important for individuals whose family members or close contacts have had the illness.

Key aspects of norovirus treatment include proper hydration and fluid replenishment, as well as adhering to dietary guidelines—specifically, avoiding dairy products, fatty foods, and fried foods for at least 3–4 days.
