Representatives of Georgian civil society are meeting with Council of Europe officials in Strasbourg.

Nino Dolidze, an election specialist and former head of the non-governmental organization "Fair Elections," stated that they met with Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset, a meeting that highlighted the Council's clear understanding of the situation in Georgia. "We, as civil society representatives, continue our efforts to uphold human rights. We are currently in Strasbourg, holding meetings with various representatives of the Council of Europe. We met with the Council of Europe’s Secretary General, Alain Berset; this meeting—along with others—confirms that the situation in Georgia is well understood here. They are fully aware of the lack of progress, despite numerous resolutions adopted regarding Georgia and the many demands and conditions set for improving the situation in the country. Consequently, while we certainly continue our advocacy work, it is clear that our partners expect change from Georgia. They stand with the Georgian people and remain fully committed to defending democracy, human rights, and the rule of law in the country," stated Nino Dolidze. Following a meeting with representatives of the Georgian civil society sector, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe also issued a statement on social media, noting that the meeting was highly valuable and highlighting areas where the Council of Europe can strengthen its influence.

"Together with representatives of Georgian civil society, within the framework of the Council of Europe’s parliamentary session, we discussed their day-to-day experiences amidst conditions that remain challenging. The Council of Europe continues to uphold human rights and freedoms through the European Court of Human Rights. It was a valuable meeting that also identified where we can strengthen our influence—including through the reform of the Council of Europe," reads the statement by Alain Berset.
