Gospel values became the central axis of our statehood, culture, and national consciousness, making Georgia an integral part of the European Christian world – Irakli Kobakhidze

Christianity arrived in our country as early as the first century through the preaching of the Holy Apostles, and the historic choice made 17 centuries ago irreversibly determined our path; Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated this while addressing the international conference "Foundations of European Civilization and 1700 Years of Christianity in Georgia."

According to the Head of Government, Gospel values became the central axis of statehood, culture, identity, and national consciousness, transforming Georgia into an integral part of the European Christian world. "I am delighted that today we are hosting an international conference in Tbilisi focused on the foundations of European civilization and 1,700 years of Christianity in Georgia. Christianity arrived in our country as early as the first century through the preaching of the Holy Apostles, while the historic choice made seventeen centuries ago irreversibly defined our path. Gospel values became the central axis of our statehood, culture, identity, and national consciousness, transforming Georgia into an integral part of the European Christian world and one of its ancient architects. Throughout the centuries, the Orthodox faith has preserved the distinct identity of our homeland, situated as it is at the crossroads of great empires and civilizations. In this unbroken chain, the contribution of the Apostolic Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Georgia—and of our greatest spiritual and public figures—has been immeasurable," the Prime Minister stated.
