Representatives of the Ombudsman visited convicted prisoner Giorgi Davitadze and three other inmates who were protesting the actions taken against Davitadze – Office of the Public Defender
On October 3–4, representatives of the Public Defender of Georgia visited Penitentiary Establishment No. 6, where they met with convicted prisoner Giorgi Davitadze and three other inmates who were protesting the actions taken against Davitadze; the Office of the Public Defender released this information. "It is publicly known that on October 4, 2026, Giorgi Davitadze swallowed several small, unidentified objects. During a meeting with a representative of the Public Defender, Giorgi Davitadze stated that he was feeling well; however, he refused to be transferred to a clinic.
According to Davitadze, this decision constitutes a form of protest, and he will not consent to a transfer to a clinic until the prisoners who were moved to de-escalation rooms in support of him are returned to their cells.
Representatives of the Public Defender also spoke with the prisoners who had expressed support for Giorgi Davitadze. They discussed the reasons for the protest and the conditions within the facility.
The Public Defender’s Office will continue to monitor the situation regarding the protection of Giorgi Davitadze’s rights," the statement from the Ombudsman’s Office notes.
